Convertible car seats are a popular style of car seat for children from infancy through toddler years.  Convertible car seats can be used rear and forward facing.  While in their rear-facing mode, most convertible car seats will support a child up to around 33-35 lbs, then you can turn the seat around until they are up to around 40-65 lbs.. *The most important factor when deciding whether a child will fit into any car seat is their torso height.  Many children outgrow seats by height long before weight, so be sure and measure and know your child's torso height when shopping for a car seat.  Torso height can be measured by sitting the child against a wall and measuring from the floor to their shoulders (NOT the top of their head).  All car seats on Hip Monkey have their max torso height listed to help you choose the right car seat for your child.

All convertible car seats have a larger seat than an infant seat, and most come with padded inserts for when baby is still small. There are no strollers that accept a convertible car seat, so expect to install the seat semi-permanently and leave it in your car for when it is needed.
